KINKY HAIR UPDATE AND A HENNA

By Hadassah Agbaps - May 10, 2013

Okay people, I officially didn't reach the two month mark and I know my stylist will be disappointed. I won't tell her yet so she won't think she did a poor job but my hair was kind of dreading up, so what was I supposed to do?

While styling my twists this morning before heading out, I noticed some roots had started dreading up.
Then I decided to take down a twist and it seemed my hair was beginning to fuse with the extensions!
As soon as I returned home, I decided to take it down asap!
I've never gone beyond three weeks with a style and I thought it would be challenging to see if I could make the two month mark.
I really enjoyed my style and the compliments but my natural hair comes first boo! I can purchase extensions anytime!
Taking out the twists dry was a bit difficult but soon, I was able to find the right conditioner: water ratio that would help untangle my hair. I used Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner. Not my favorite conditioner but that's another story.

About 7hrs later, I was completely done! Luckily I didn't have much breakage but I did shed some hair which was OK.
Not alarmed!
I thought my hair would live in "Split City " but it wasn't the case. I did have some splits but not much. I'm suprised because I wasn't really consistent with my bonnet. Maybe it's the search and destroys.
I retained length if my quick length check is right. I will have to compare pics when I take a new picture. I think I need one of those length check Tees!

My hair was not too dry but it did soak up the detangler fast! So I knew I'd have to do a henna treatment immediately!
I washed with this new kids shampoo I got in a store while searching for my Aussie Moist.
It's called "Suave Kids 2 in 1 Smoothers Tear Free in Cowabunga Coconut". The reviews on Google said it wasn't drying to children's hair so I bought it to try out. Cost me N600.
I wanted to use a shampoo to clarify my hair of 5weeks buildup (I cleansed and washed in between though). Not surprisingly, my hair wasn't really dirty. One wash was enough. I don't know if it's my hair type but the shampoo kind of dried out my hair. I can't come to a conclusion though because it's just one wash.  It smells nice anyway. I'll have to keep my new Aussie bottles aside. Don't want them to run out too soon! Hehe #hoarder.

Before shampooing,I measured out one and a half cup of dried henna leaves. I had to sieve it to get rid of sticks and such. It's locally sourced henna but oh my, the dye release is awesome. I still have red palms! I will explain why later.

I mixed the henna with lime juice (didn't measure but it's less than the standard half cup) diluted with water until it was a paste like consistency.

Then I left it to allow for dye release and shampooed my hair.

When I was done with shampooing and blotting out my hair, I mixed in ORS Replenishing Conditioner until the consistency was light enough to apply.

Here's how I got red palms. The disposable gloves I used for application had a leak. So when I noticed the dye had seeped into the gloves, I didn't see any need to deceive myself so I took it off and used my bare hands!

Now my palms are orange and my finger tips are red! Hopefully, by Monday, it would fade out a bit.
It was really late, so I decided to leave it in overnight and the smell of grass knocked me off to sleep... lucky me!

In the morning, I rinsed it off under the shower but still couldn't get it off completely even when I used conditioner. I didn't want to use a blow dryer (speeds up the process ) so I'll have to wait for my hair to air dry which unlike my hair is taking a longer time to dry. That's a good sign for my porous hair though. Means the henna did its work.

Today is free for me, so while I'm waiting for it to dry, I'll mix up the preordered tubs of NappyGirl Pudding I need to send out soon!
Also, I can't wait to try out this Cantu Shea Butter Repair Leave in Conditioner I got recently. *rubs hands together *

P.S. I think I wasted my money on that Iman Time Control Oil Control Primer. It seems to work best when I don't use a moisturizer beneath (and I have to!) and overall my FOTE Aloe Vera gel did a better job in oil control and smoothening. Can't believe "I went to Sokoto! "...will still try other ways of using it though till my sis comes to take it away! I love that babe!

So that's the update for today.
