AFRICAN DAY NATURALS: A CELEBRATION OF NATURAL HAIR IN AFRICA

By Hadassah Agbaps - May 26, 2015

Hi people, what's been on?

In celebration of African Freedom Day, ZedHair.com collaborated with African natural bloggers across the continent and in the diaspora to speak positively about Africa at once. Through this effort, I got to know about other bloggers in Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa and my home country Nigeria!

So here they are!

Akos (Afrokanomics, Ghana, Zambia, Botswana)

"I love being African because - too many reasons to note. I'm just so happy and honoured to get to call this continent home."

Nangasmo (FroChic, South Africa)

"I love being African because we have such rich and vibrant cultures; from our traditional attires to our yummy food; there is so much variety! I also love being African because of our spirit of Ubuntu: "I am because we are"."

Onyinye (AfricanNaturals, Nigeria)
I like being from Africa because despite having so many diverse cultures and different hardworking people, we still consciously identify as Africans....as one.

BlackBeautyKween, South Africa.

"I like being African because I'm black and beautiful."

Kasuba (Rockin Naturals, South Africa/Zambia)

"I love being African because it's the only place where I can visit someone at lunch and not be chased away; giving directions means saying 'at the hump' or 'at the big tree'; street vendors/call boys are everybody's knight in shining armour (you will never be stranded here!)"

Naomi  (KinksnTwists/Zambia)
"I love being african because: My black is flawless. It sings with a rhythmic melody of beauty.
My black is loud. My Black is gold. My kinky hair roars with elegance, it defines my beauty."

Carice (DestinyConnect, South Africa)
"I like being African because of the richness of our stories.I like being African because we are survivors and thrivers across the world.  I like being African because of the diversity of us from our skin colour to our hair texture to our languages and cultures."

Tabitha (CravingYellow/Kenya)
I love being African because we are a continent full of laughter and sunshine and hope!

Sibongile (Zedian Chic, Zambia)
"I love being African because I am so proud of my roots, the rich culture and the uniqueness that I was born into."

Kelechi (YellowSisi, Nigeria)

"I like being African because of our uniqueness and the excellence that ever brews within us, the innocence of our creative abilities, untainted by the measures imposed by the others. In spite of our difficulties, we are a joyful and content continent. I love my Africa!"

Hadassah (Nappily Nigerian Girl, Nigeria)

"I love being African because I get to have gravity defying kinky coily hair, smooth shiny chocolate skin and a unique colourful culture."
